Email #67   HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY NORA!

Aloha Everyone!

We have had a wonderful weekend with our dear friends the Pagets.  They arrived on the Island on Friday evening, and we attended the night show with them and were also able to spend Saturday and Sunday with them.

The email this week will be mostly pictures of things we were able to do together.  On Saturday we went to a place we had never been before.  It is called the Punchbowl.  It is a U.S. war veterans memorial.  The grounds were magnificent. It made me realize once again how grateful we should be for those who gave their lives for our freedom.  It felt like we were on sacred ground.

One thing that was supposed to take place on the Island this week but had to be postponed was “The Eddie” surfing competition.  It is an annual event on Ohau. Eddie Aikau was a championship athlete, a waterman and family man who truly cared for others.  He was the first lifeguard for the entire North Shore and saved over 500 people throughout his career.  So, this competition is named after him and draws people from all over the world.  It was supposed to have been on Thursday but the waves weren’t large enough and the winds weren’t just right so it was cancelled.  It is rescheduled for a week from today.  The North shore gets extremely crowded this time of year because of the surfing competitions here.  One of the pictures included was taken by a senior missionary on the North Shore on Thursday—the day the competition was cancelled.

One of the highlights of my week was an experience that had nothing to do with being here but connecting with loved ones at home.  Tuesday morning in a text, Joan asked us sisters if we had had any personal stories of receiving revelation for protection for our children—like Joseph and Mary received to protect Jesus from King Herod.  She wanted to gather stories to use in her Sunday school lesson on Sunday.  Jane and Janice both responded with Marco Polos about specific times they had received direction regarding their children.  Then Ken also shared an experience in a Marco.  I won’t share those experiences here but will say that I loved hearing these stories and felt the confirming power of the spirit that we can and do get impressions to guide our families. I believe that it is more imperative now than ever to pray for protection for our families and listen for guidance on how to help them.  We pray for you every day.

Have a wonderful, happy week!

Much love,

Sister Bleak, Mom, Grandma

How I have seen the hand of the Lord in my life this week:

*Tess was in the foyer after ukulele class.  I rarely see her on campus.  She needed my help.

*I felt the spirit as my sisters and Ken shared their experiences with receiving inspiration for their children.

*I followed my gut and made soup in the crock pot on Friday which was a tender mercy because we would not have had time to buy dinner before the night show.

*I again marvel at the beautiful earth Heavenly Father gave us to live on.
